NEW BADGE: The Celtic Banners series

We kick-off a new series of Celtic banner-themed badges with an inspirational banner from the dark, dark days of the early 1990s.

Many Celtic fans of that era are still suffering from PTSD as a result of the chronic mis-management of the club which subjected us to mid-table finishes, no European football, shambolic performances, Michael Kelly and the sight of Tony Cascarino in the hoops. <shivers>

The legendary humour of the Celtic support and ability to laugh at ourselves and our misfortunes shone through as the fans adopted Eric Idle’s song ‘Always Look On The Bright Side of Life‘ from the Crucifixion scene in the film Monty Python’s Life of Brian. It became such a firm favourite of support that, by July 1992, some fans put the song title on a banner (in a fantastic design) for display at Tony Mowbray’s testimonial match in Middlesborough.

In the last 30 years Celtic fans have been singing the song when laughing at the misfortunes of others, especially at Ibrox, Tynecastle etc. And other clubs (notably of late PSV Eindhoven) have recently joined in the fun also.
