Alan sent us down memory lane with this picture of his green white and gold bar scarf with some excellent old school patches on it. He’s had it since season 1983/4. No doubt many will remember some of the different club crest patches that were popular at the time.
Some younger fans might be surprised by the joint Celtic and Man United patch given some of the recent animosity between the supporters. As Alan says: “For many years this was a strong link and we seemed to play them once a season in friendlies or Testimonials. It was the only link we had. The links were said to be political.”
The patch commemorating Pope John Paul II’s visit to Ireland in 1979 was another fairly common feature of the time – an incredibly popular Pope, although whether he preferred Celtic over his native Krakow was never established . . .
