GLASGOW’S GREEN AND WHITE – A book celebrating the best of Celtic fan stickers.
The sweeping craze of ultra culture among football fans in Europe in recent years has changed the look and feel of stadia inside and out. Glasgow, one of the world’s great football cities, has been impacted like so many others. Stickers are a key feature in the armoury of ultra groups and, since the inception of Celtic’s Green Brigade in 2006, the streets around Celtic Park, the East End and the whole city of Glasgow became a new canvas for images telling the stories of rivalry, heroes, hatred, celebration and much, much more.
In 2015, the BHOYS arose from the ashes of the Style Mile Vandals (SMV) who had achieved notoriety and praise for improving the ambience of Glasgow city centre and their arrival was a further spur in the battle for dominance of the city’s streets against the ‘dregs and scourings of filthy slumdom’ emanating from Kinning Park.

Taking the lead from the ultra groups, Celtic supporter clubs (CSCs) and other more informal fan groups have further bolstered the Celtic cause to make Glasgow truly green and white and the COVID era saw many other fans, some very skilled and some just starting, getting into sticker design. Celtic fan stickers reflect the talent, humour and wide range of views and beliefs held by the Celtic support which often go far beyond football into politics and elsewhere.
The quality and imagination of the fans’ designs keep improving year on year and help to capture and promote the unique identity that the Celtic club and support have in world football. They may not be to the liking of everyone but they have improved immeasurably the streetscape of Glasgow and many towns and cities beyond, making the Dear Green Place truly Celtic’s.
