Introducing the second in our series of Celtic banner-themed badges . . .
In the 1988 Scottish Cup Final both Celtic and Dundee United fans took part in a red card protest at the beginning of the game to demonstrate disgust at the presence at Hampden of the hated Conservative Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

The Thatcher Governments were notorious for creating mass unemployment in Scotland and the UK, destroying the social fabric, privatising vital nationalised industries for profit, undermining the NHS and dragging the country into pointless jingoistic wars as well as exacerbating the conflict in the North of Ireland.
Unsurprisingly, there was one football ground in Scotland where the Evil Empress was welcomed with open arms . . .
During the game, some fans displayed a banner with the slogan: “Celtic supporters say: POVERTY PEDLAR THATCHER GET ON YOUR BIKE” This was a reference to heartless comments by her henchman Norman Tebbit previously that the unemployed should simply “get on their bikes” to search for work – when work existed in very few areas as a result of her Government’s policies.
This historic Scottish Cup Final in Celtic’s Centenary season ended in a 2-1 victory for Billy McNeill’s side – and a Double for the new Champions.
